Bluestar Silicones unveils silicone elastomers for wound care
ERJ staff report (TB)
East Brunswick, New Jersey -- Bluestar Silicones USA Corp.'s new line of skin adhesive elastomer gels provides gentle, nonirritating adhesion for a range of wound and skin-care applications, the company said.
The firm's Silbione silicone skin adhesives, launched at the Medical Design & Manufacturing West conference and expo in Anaheim, Calif., are two-part, platinum-catalyzed gel elastomers, manufactured in a clean environment to ensure health care grade levels of purity and quality, the East Brunswick-based company said. Wound care is a growing market for silicones because of the material's property profile and biocompatibility, said Karen O'Keefe, Bluestar's North American health care market manager.
The Silbione products enable adhesion to dry skin without adhesion to moist skin, preventing secondary trauma to newly formed skin in a healing wound, Bluestar said. The gas-permeable adhesives retain their properties upon removal so they can be repositioned for several applications. The adhesives also may be washed and reused.
