Goodyear to cut truck tyre production across Europe
ERJ staff report (DS)
Colmar-Berg, Luxemburg - Goodyear Luxembourg has informed staff that the production of truck tyres will be reduced considerably until the end of the year. Due to a Europe-wide downturn of the truck tyre market, said Goodyear, sales figures were lower than expected and stocks were increasing.
Goodyear said it will reduce its truck tyre production across Europe, including production at Wittlich. In Colmar-Berg, Goodyear Luxembourg will limit its production to 6 days a week starting from 7 Sept., and extend its Christmas shut-down to a total of ten days. Only the truck tyre production is affected by these measures; all other activities, such as earth mover tyres, will proceed with their regular production.
Staff will have to use up annual vacation allowances to accommodate the cutbacks, said John Jentgen, Director, Manufacturing Luxembourg Complex. He said this was to avoid the need for forced redundancies.
