Norwood, North Carolia -- The tyre builders at Michelin Aircraft Tire Co. (MATC) recently celebrated the production of their 3 millionth aircraft tyre at the company's Norwood plant.
“The production of the 3 millionth tyre is an important milestone for everyone here at Norwood,†said Randy Stroman, facility manager. “Everyone enjoyed a week-long celebration that included giveaways, promotions and an opportunity for each employee to sign the tyre.â€
The Norwood factory is the sole tyre supplier to the NASA Space Shuttle, equipping the craft with Michelin Air brand tyres-a line first introduced for the general aviation market in 1992. The plant produces aircraft tyres for all types of aircraft including military, commercial, general aviation, corporate and regional applications. Established in 1986, the facility has 360 employees.
MATC recently received the Environmental Stewardship Initiative award from the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
