Gates to close US belt plant
Denver, Colorado -- After an extensive study, Gates Corp. is restructuring its belt manufacturing in North America and closing its Moncks Corner, South Carolina, belt plant.
The Moncks Corner factory shutdown is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2009. Gates said its other North American belt facilities will absorb production from the site.
The closing of the facility isn't a reflection on the performance of plant employees or plant operations, said Brian Harris, president of Gates Power Transmission Group, who noted the competitiveness of the belting business domestically and internationally.
