US company bids for Goodyear's OTR factory in Topeka, Kansas
ERJ staff report (DS)
Chino, California - American Tire Corporation (ATC) said it has written to Goodyear offering to buy Goodyear's OTR tyre plant located in Topeka, Kansas.
Under the proposal, ATC wants to buy out Goodyear's OTR tyre plant in Topeka, Kansas, "at any reasonable price", according to a press release sent out by ATC. Built in 1944 by US government, Goodyear's Topeka tyre plant is the largest Goodyear OTR tyre plant in the world and the only one in North America.
If the bid were to be successful, ATC said it would spend US$200 million to modernise the plant, increase production capacity by at least 20 percent and increase the range to include all sizes of OTR tyres.
Goodyear had not responded to ERJ's queries by the time this story went on the web.
