Cooper launches asymmetric Avon-brand ZV5 tyre
ERJ staff report (DS)
Melksham, UK -- Cooper Tire & Rubber is launching the latest in its performance car range, the Avon-branded ZV5. Cooper said the new tyre boasts significant improvements in handling, fuel efficiency and road noise, thanks to the use of the latest silica compounds and computer-aided design techniques. It is aimed at the mass market, from small hatchbacks to large saloons, as well as MPVs and sportscars.
Cooper said the product builds on the existing ZV3 product line, but the new tyre has an asymmetric tread pattern, "enhanced with wide, open slots on the shoulders improving handling in dry weather, while bold, open circumferential grooves help reduce the chances of aquaplaning in deep water. The tread blocks and siping have been designed to cut through thin films of water to further enhance braking performance."
The ZV5 uses, "fourth generation silica rubber compound." Cooper said this improves wet weather performance and helps the wear characteristics. Large rim flange protectors on all sizes help guard against kerbing damage on alloy rims.
Cooper said the ZV5 will be available from Avon dealers from April.
