Las Vegas (SEMA) - Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. is beginning production in Japan of its Super E-Spec passenger tyre, which combines citrus oil with natural rubber to form a compound that is less environmentally-damaging than conventional compounds, officials said.
The tyre is being made in three sizes to fit the Honda Civic Hybrid and the Toyota Prius for sale in Japan, said Jim Mayfield, director of Yokohama´s Advan brand.
Fred Koplin, director of marketing and communications for Yokohama Tire Corp., said plans for the tyre in the US and elsewhere remain indefinite as the company would need to produce more sizes for those market.
Yokohama first announced the tyre in February.
