Contitech opens hose assembly unit in Friedberg
Friedberg, Germany - ContiTech Techno-Chemie, headquartered in Karben, has opened a new plant in neighboring Friedberg. At the 5000-m2, hose lines for trucks and other commercial vehicles are developed, produced and shipped from there to the customers. ContiTech has invested about €1.5 million in the plant.
Consolidating the truck line operations in the new plant has released space at the Karben factory for expanding the production of passenger car products. Hose lines for all major car manufacturers are made at the plant. Whereas daily output at the approx. 17 000-m2-facility still hovered around the 85 000-part mark in 2003, this year daily turnout is already exceeding 100 000 parts.
“The main reason for consolidating our truck line activities was the significant increase in sales and volumes in the truck line segment in recent yearsâ€, said managing director Günter Frölich. “That increase, which is essentially attributable to product innovations, has led to about 200 new and profitable jobs at the Karben and Friedberg locations.†In 2003, approximately 6 000 parts were manufactured each day in Karben; this year daily turnout is already up to over 15 000 parts. The number of line variants has also increased by roughly 25 percent in just the last two years.
The new plant employs 162, twice as many as there were in the truck operations just two years ago. They produce lines for pneumatic brakes, fuel, the clutch, hydraulic transmissions, oil cooling, power steering, air conditioning, the compressor and the carburetor, heating and the cab tilt hydraulics. Alongside these classical truck lines, quite a bit of the available space is devoted to the new SCR production. The hose solutions from ContiTech Fluid Technology ensure the constant flowability of carbamide, which is used in diesel engine SCR technology to reduce environmentally harmful nitrogen oxide. The hose in question has an EPDM jacket, polyester braid pressure carrier and several integrated heating wires that make sure the carbamide does not freeze up.
