Nokian negotiating in Kazakhstan
Astana, Kazakhstan -Â Nokian Tyres said it is negotiating with parties in Kazakhstan, but declined to give any more details. The comment follows a news report from the Interfax news agency in Russia that says, "Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has attended groundbreaking ceremonies for three new plants in Astana. They include an enterprise to produce Nokian tires, a plant that will assemble Nissan cars, and another plant to assemble General Electric railway locomotives."
The report, dated 3 July continued, "Kazakhstan's Ordabasy corporation will invest $200 million in the construction of a plant to make Nokian tyres. The facility may come on stream next year."
It appears from press reports, that the factory is being built, but Nokian has not committed to participating in the venture.
