Tyre recycler fined $17 000 over worker death
Cincinnati, Ohio - The US-based Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has fined Rumpke Tire Recycling, a subsidiary of waste recycling firm Rumpke Consolidated Companies Inc., $17 000 for safety violations connected with the death of a temporary worker at Rumpke Tire's Butler County, Ohio, facility.
Scott Johnson, 56, was gravely injured April 27 when he either fell or was pulled into a tyre shredder. He died of his injuries June 16.
“The safety of each and every employee is our chief concern,†said Rumpke Vice President Jeff Rumpke in a statement after Mr. Johnson's death. “A tragic accident like this is a grim reminder that more work is necessary.â€
Rumpke Tire has teamed with TLC Industrial Temporary, Johnson's employer, to promote a fund for Mr. Johnson's family.
