Leverkusen, Germany -Â Lanxess is to introduce a new type of SBR gel to the tyre industry at the K show in October. The company has announced a product called Nanopren which is claimed to offer better dry grip and improved wear resistance in the dry with no reduction in wet grip.
Lanxess said the product is a gel based on emulsion-process styrene-butadiene rubber. The particles are in the nano range, added the company. The company said it can also be used as a versatile modifier in the rubber and plastics industries, tanks to its defined internal structure and special surface functionality.
The company also presented a new kind of butyl rubber (isoprene-isobutylene rubber) that contains up to eight percent isoprene, compared with the more usual two percent. The comapny said, "They will dramatically simplify the manufacture of rubber mixtures and enhance the abrasion resistance and wet grip of high-performance tires. What's more, the new high-isoprene grade is now compatible with peroxide crosslinking, which considerably expands the range of application a step further."
Lanxess also touted the expansions in capacity at its Antwerp and Sarnia factories, initially revealed over a year ago.
