Teknor Apex gears up for TPE presence in Europe, China
Friedrichshafen, Germany - Teknor Apex is setting up a global organisation to provide customers with compounded TPEs. The company is now extending its business into Europe and subsequently, to China. Nick Sandland, previously of Zeon Europe, will head the new European unit. He will be based at TA's UK subsidiary, Chem Polymer. The company also indicated that it plans to produce TPE materials in Europe beginning in 2008. Around the same time, another new Teknor Apex TPE plant will begin operating in China.
TA's Thermoplastic Elastomer Division operates extensive compounding capability in the US In addition, Singapore Polymer Corporation (SPC), another Teknor Apex subsidiary, now compounds the full range of TPEs in Singapore.
Teknor Apex supplies TPE compounds under six trade names that represent different technologies, including di- and tri-block hydrogenated styrene block copolymers (Tekron, Elexar, and Monprene), thermoplastic polyolefin blends (Telcar), thermoplastic vulcanisates (Uniprene), and over-molding compositions designed to bond to diverse polar substrates (Tekbond).
Sandland has spent eighteen years in the polymer industry, including ten as a technical service manager for Zeon Europe's range of elastomers. He served in other technical positions with Metzeler Automotive Profiles, Dunlop Precision Rubber, and Federal Mogul Sealing Systems.
