Goodyear lays off 300 at wire plant during strike
Akron, Ohio -- Goodyear has temporarily laid off 300 workers at its wire products plant in Asheboro, North Carolina, as the ongoing United Steelworkers strike reduces the need for the plant´s wire, a spokesman for the tyre maker said.
"We´re operating at a reduced operating level and we have the wire we need," the spokesman said.
Akron-based Goodyear continues to make tyres at its non-union plants in Lawton, Oklahoma, and Napanee, Canada.
