Two thirds of British drivers dont know legal tread depth: survey
London - A British survey found that two out of three motorists did not know the required legal tread depth and 40 percent had not checked their tyre pressure in more than a month.
The UK Tickbox Survey, conducted in April, also found that 82 percent of motorists surveyed claimed never to have driven on tyres that were even slightly under-inflated or unsafe while half the participants were unaware that under-inflated tyres increased braking distances.
According to the research, one out of seven people surveyed claimed to have checked their tyre tread depth in the last six months, despite only one third knowing the legal minimum depth - 1.6 mm.
