Thomas Liotta gets ASTM award for distinguished service

    West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania-Thomas Liotta's 35 years of service in committees looking at rubber testing, standards and evaluation for the American standards body ASTM has been recognised with a Distinguished Service Award.

    The committee cited Liotta's "dedicated and distinguished service to Committee D11 in the development and maintenance of international standards for the rubber industry and for outstanding leadership as chairman of Committee D11."

    An ASTM International member since 1967, consultant Liotta serves on many D11 subcommittees, as well chairing the main 320-strong committee. In addition, he is a member of ASTM Committees D13 on Textiles and D24 on Carbon Black.

    Liotta career covers physical and chemical analysis of raw materials, rubber compounds, and tyres. In other work on dynamic characteristics of tyres, he has been involved in indoor evaluation of tyre uniformity and handling characteristics and outdoor ride and handling evaluation of tyres.

    Before becoming a consultant, Liotta was with Continental Tire, North America as manager of Charlotte operations CTNA's Global Evaluation Dept.
