Amerityre's full-size polyurethane spare tyre can be used in the US
Boulder City, Nevada -- Amerityre Corp. has announced that its full-size non-pneumatic passenger car tyre has passed Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standard 129 testing. In April 2005, Amerityre announced that
non-pneumatic tyres for compact and mid-sized vehicles had passed the same standard. The prototype tyres, made from a proprietary polyurethane compound, have been developed by Amerityre for prospective use as temporary/spare passenger car tyres and do not require air to operate.
"The tyres are now eligible for use as spare tyres on about 90% of all
passenger cars produced each year" according to Richard Steinke, Amerityre's
President and CEO. "One of our goals was to have a polyurethane car tyre
product ready to commercialise this year," Steinke added. "We have
successfully tested multiple designs of the temporary tyres and we're
currently working with a couple of automobile manufacturers to begin
qualifying the tyres as original equipment 'spare' tyres."
