Washington, DC--major US tyre makers and their representative groups issued a lawsuit on Monday with the aim of blocking the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) final ruling on tyre pressure monitoring systems in cars. They claim the rule is inadequate.
The suit was filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia by Public Citizen, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., Pirelli and the Tire Industry Association.
"While we support tire pressure monitoring systems as a way to increase safety, the current (rule) does not go far enough," the companies said in a joint statement. "There is technology available to provide faster, more accurate information to motorists."
