Steelworkers strike at Cooper plant
Texarkana, Arkansas--Members of United Steelworkers of America Local 752, which represents about 1600 hourly workers at Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.'s Texarkana tyre facility, went on strike at midnight March 12.
The three-year contract between the union and company was to expire at midnight March 6, but was extended to March 12. It is the first strike at the Texarkana plant since 1978.
Health care for active USWA members and retirees is the major sticking point in the negotiations, a union spokesman said.
