VMI launches modular tyre building system
VMI Epe has announced a new tyre building system, designed to permit lot sizes as small as one tyre, but with minimal technological risk.
The technology, announced publicly for the first time to the public at tire technology 2005 in Cologne, is claimed to improve quality, reduce cost and minimse floor space. A single unit capable of making 1200 tyres/day requires three staff, and occupies much less floor space than the conventional equivalent.
According to J J SPanjer, chief execitive of VMI, the company has already made tyres on the system, and is building a showroom and manufacturing plant for the system in conjunction with Marangoni Meccanica in Rovereto, Italy. Spanjer expects to have a working cell operating at its Epe, Netherlands headquarters by the end of this year.
