UEFA allows synthetic pitches for competition matches
Vienna--UEFA, the European governing body for Football (soccer) has said it will permit championship matches to be played on artificial turf from 2005/06 season. Recycled rubber is used extensively in artificial sports surfaces.
The decision follows a two-year trial on piches in various parts of Europe, which have shown that manufacturers have eliminated previous problems with artificial surfaces. UEFA has a list of companies whose pitch surfaces meet UEFA standards.
