Hübner wins “major” rubber gangways supply deal in US

German supplier to deliver 612 transition systems for Boston metro project
Kassel, Germany – Rail and bus components supplier Huebner Group has landed a deal to supply multiple parts, including rubber gangways, for new light rail vehicles to be used in Boston, Massachusetts.
The parts will be supplied to train manufacturer Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) USA, which has secured an $810-million (€688 million) contract to build 102 light rail vehicles for the ‘green line’ of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).
As part of the deal, Huebner will supply 612 gangway systems to CAF USA from its locations in Germany and the US, said the Kassel-based supplier.
According to the German supplier, parts will be manufacturered and sent to the US following a ‘first article inspection’ in Kassel.
The final assembly of parts, with local added value, will take place at US locations in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Dunlap, Tennessee.
In addition to corrugated bellows, the supply deal for the gangway systems includes of turning plates and lower articulations.
Furthermore, the upper articulations will be delivered by Huebner subsidiary Hemscheidt Engineering.
This is Huebner’s third gangway systems supply deal in the US over the recent months.
In addition to the Boston deal, the company is also supplying gangway systems to ongoing metro projects in Washington DC and Los Angeles, California.
