Michelin liable for 5-year back payments to 115 former Wolber employees
Soissons, France--Michelin has reportedly lost a legal battle over the fate of 115 employees of the former Wolber bicycle tyre factory. The five-year battle was resolved last Friday (5 Nov.), when an industrial tribunal ruled that Michelin had breached rules on employee consultation when it made 451 employees of the Wolber plant redundant. The court said Michelin has to re-employ all 115 plaintiffs and give them back-pay for the last five years.
The workers will reportedly be offered jobs in other Michelin factories, since the Wolber plant no longer exists and production has been moved to India.
