Goodyear cuts 250 jobs at Union City, Tennessee
Paducah, Kentucky--Goodyear Tire and Rubber has announced plans to cut a further 250 jobs from its tyre factory in Union City, Tennessee, reducing employment there to 2300, compared with 3800 in 2002.
A company spokesman was quoted in local press saying the layoffs would affect about 10 percent of the hourly-paid and salaried workers, but the full details had not yet been worked out. Union City makes car and light truck tyres. A six-year contract signed earlier this year by Goodyear and employees allows layoffs of up to 15 percent of the workforce.
