Nokian Tyres to expand logistics in home town

Nokia, Finland-Nokian Tyres plc is to spend Euro 17 million on doubling the size of its logistics centre in Nokia, Finland, where its headquarters and main manufacturing operation are sited.
"Efficient operations and strong logistic management during the peak seasons are the key requirements for a Nordic tyre supplier," said Kari-Pekka Laaksonen, vice president of logistics and purchasing with Nokian.
"The logistic centre expansion means that our daily delivery capacity can be even 50 percent higher than today," he added, in a Nokian statement on the expansion.
Nokian Tyres has signed a construction agreement with Nordisk Renting AB, involving a 15-year lease for the new facility, with an accompanying purchase option.
Construction of the 34 000-sq.m building will start in autumn 2004, and be finished by the end of 2005. The new centre will be able to store some 600Â 000 tyres, doubling Nokian's tyre storage capacity in the town. The new centre will be built next to the current three-year-old 32 000-sq.m storage site, near Nokia town centre.
