Akron, Ohio-Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is axing around 340 jobs under a cost-cutting rationalisation programme at its Engineered Products and Chemical businesses, Goodyear announced 10 Sept.
Some 240 of the job losses will be in Engineered Products business. The Akron group has posted third quarter charges of between $23.5 million and $27.5 million for rationalization of the unit as well as future charges of $4.6-6.5 million.
The Chemical business is to shed the remainder of the job losses, for which Goodyear expects charges of between $5.5 million and $6 million in the third quarter as well as future costs of $2-2.5 million.
Among the Engineered Products reductions are some 80 jobs at a warehouse in Lincoln, Nebraska. Around 70 positions have already been eliminated at another Lincoln warehouse, which has been closed as the operation transfers to a new distribution center in Moberly, Missouri.
