Charles Lawrence ups scrap tyre demand
By Patrick Raleigh, ERJ On-line news editor
London-Groupe Michelin has reported a big increase in demand for scrap tyres from its UK recycling partner Charles Lawrence International, which granulates truck tyre casings for use in athletics tracks, children's playground surfaces and sports facilities.
CLI's sister company, Playtop Ltd has recently expanded their worldwide network of licensees, which has “triggered a steep rise in demand for tyre granulate,†according to a Michelin press statement. The French tyre group has a partnership with Newark, UK-based CLI, which also designs and builds tyre shredders and granulators.
Playtop is installed under license in countries throughout Europe, as well as in the Middle East and Asia. The company's product specification requires a certain type and size of tyre granulate for the base material which can only be obtained from commercial vehicle tyres.
