Deal transfers Sokolov operation as Synthomer continues shift towards speciality chemicals
Munich, Germany – Mutares has completed its acquisition of Synthomer's Czech acrylate monomers business, three months after agreeing the carve-out transaction.
The acquired Synthomer a.s. business produces acrylic acids and acrylic esters at its manufacturing site in Sokolov, Czech Republic, and employs around 300 people, Mutarest announced 30 Sept.
The German group reported 2025 carve-out revenues of €110 million, including intercompany sales.
The acquisition, it said, represents "a strategic platform investment" for the grop's Chemicals & Materials segment, which now includes Sabic's Engineering Thermoplastics (ETP).
"The transaction is fully aligned with Mutares’ strategy of acquiring businesses with significant operational improvement potential from special situations, and provides a clear path towards substantial value creation," it said.
Synthomer agreed in June to sell the operation to Mutares, with completion expected by the end of the third quarter.
The UK chemicals group described the unit as its only remaining upstream business and said the divestment would support its shift towards higher-margin speciality chemicals. (ERJ report)
Synthomer previously reported that the business generated €68 million in external sales and a standalone adjusted earnings (EBITDA) loss of €10 million in 2025.
