Kumho expands Australian tire distribution capacity

Melbourne, Australia – Kumho Tire Australia has opened a new distribution centre in Melbourne with capacity to store more than 180,000 tires.

Located near Pakenham in Melbourne's south-east, the 16,000-square-metre facility replaces Kumho's 10,000-square-metre distribution centre in Dandenong South, Kumho said 21 Sept.

The move increases available storage space by more than 60%, while tire capacity rises from around 130,000 units at the previous site.

Kumho said the expansion was driven particularly by growing demand for 4x4 and EV tires and the need to carry a wider range of products.

“The demand for tires to address the changing vehicle market, including the arrival of the latest crop of EVs and new Chinese brands, has meant we need to carry more products, more often,” said Victorian state manager Alan Knight.

Kumho will also be able to stock a higher proportion of EV-compatible tires at the new facility, he added.

The Korean tire maker said it has expanded its Australian distribution network in recent years, including facilities in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

Kumho said it also plans to expand its presence in South Australia during 2027.
