Indian tire maker to add 1.2 million units of capacity over an 18-month period
Cologne, Germany – Long-known as a major bicycle tire brand in India, Ralson is now steadily establishing itself as a significant manufacturer and supplier of radial truck & bus tires (TBRs) for markets worldwide.
Supporting the Indian company’s export-focused programme is its TBR plant in Indore, Madya Pradesh, where the first tire rolled off the production line in October 2022 – first commercial sales beginning four months later.
With a capacity of 1 million units/year, the plant is today running at a utilisation rate of about 85%, Prabhakar Garimella, senior VP, global sales, told ERJ in an interview at the recent The Tire Cologne trade fair
To meet growing demand, Ralson is set to scale up the Indore facility, added Garimella, reporting that Ralson’s board has recently approved an investment to add 1.2 million units of capacity at the site within 18 months.
Furthermore, he noted that the Indore site covers 100 acres, of which only about 30% has been used so far – leaving room to expand annual capacity to as much as 5 million tires over time.
