Tosoh reports higher chloroprene rubber shipments on Middle East demand
Selling prices also increased as butadiene surged during the quarter
Tokyo – Tosoh Corp. has increased chloroprene rubber shipments and selling prices during the first quarter of fiscal 2026, supported by demand linked to tensions in the Middle East.
In its quarterly results, published 4 Aug, the Japanese chemicals group said chloroprene rubber volumes rose as customers increased purchases following supply concerns related to the regional conflict.
Selling prices also increased as butadiene surged on the impact of the Middle East tensions, Tosoh added.
The performance contributed to a 14% year-on-year increase in sales at Tosoh's value-added chemicals business to Yen42.9 billion (€236 million), while operating income more than doubled to Yen8.2 billion.
According to the company, earnings were supported by higher shipments of chloroprene rubber and ethyleneamines, as well as improved inventory valuation.
