SPC expands European rubber compounding capacity

Porto, Portugal – SPC Europe has announced the launch of its new rubber mixing facility in Porto, “further strengthening its manufacturing capabilities and reinforcing the group's long-term commitment to the European rubber industry.”

The CAMAC Compounding facility, it said, has been specifically engineered to produce high-performance tread compounds for the tire industry, while also supporting growing demand for specialised compounds used in conveyor belting and industrial rubber applications.

According to SPC Europe, the investment represents a significant expansion of the group's mixing capacity and demonstrates its continued focus on delivering high-quality, technically advanced rubber compounds to customers across the tire, industrial, and materials-handling sectors.

CAMAC Mixing, it added, is set to play a key role in supporting the future growth of SPC Europe while helping customers meet the evolving technical and environmental demands of the rubber industry.

The Porto operation has been designed with “flexibility and sustainability at its core”, the group noting that the dedicated mixing line will focus on natural rubber and SBR-based compounds, while also providing the capability to process compounds suitable for retreading applications.

As part of SPC Europe's wider sustainability strategy, the facility is being developed to maximise the use of sustainable and recycled raw materials wherever possible.

Future planned developments include the utilisation of recovered carbon black and recovered oils in suitable applications, “helping customers reduce their environmental footprint without compromising performance.”

Furthermore, the new mixing line is said to complement the wider capabilities of the SPC Europe group, which offers calendering and downstream processing capabilities through a network of specialist manufacturing sites located across Europe.
