Company becomes top-tier member, joins steering committee as UK renews road safety strategy
Hanau, Germany – Dunlop Tyre Europe GmbH, the European subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber, has joined UK tire safety charity TyreSafe as one of its highest-level members.
Announced 28 July, the agreement will see Dunlop Tyre Europe as one of TyreSafe's 12 charity incorporated organisation (CIO) members, helping the organisation "shape the strategic direction of tire safety in the UK."
The company will also join the TyreSafe steering committee, contributing to the charity's governance and future strategy.
The partnership covers both the Dunlop and Falken tire brands.
According to Dunlop Tyre Europe, the partnership will include collaboration on initiatives such as ‘tire safety month’ in October, as well as the contribution of research and data to support TyreSafe's road safety campaigns.
The announcement comes as the UK government has renewed its focus on road safety following publication of its national road safety strategy in January.
The strategy targets a 65% reduction in road deaths and serious injuries by 2035.
Citing TyreSafe date, Dunlop Tyre Europe said more than 6 million tires on UK roads have illegal tread each year, while more than 2 million MOT failures annually are linked to tire defects.
The charity also estimates that 26.4% of drivers have never checked their tire tread depth, rising to 33.5% among drivers aged 18 to 25.
