Arlanxeo, Covestro in tie-up to cut chloroprene rubber footprint
Baypren product portfolio sees around 20% lower GWP versus 2025 levels using ISCC+ certified feedstocks
Leverkusen, Germany – Arlanxeo and Covestro are collaborating to reduce the carbon footprint of chloroprene rubber (CR) production through the use of ISCC+ certified chlorine.
As part of the process, Covestro supplies chlorine produced using renewable electricity for the production of Arlanxeo’s ‘Baypren-branded’ CR manufacturing.
As of January, all of Arlanxeo’s chloroprene rubber production is based on ISCC+ certified chlorine, said Covestro in a 10 June statement.
The switch, according to Covestro, has reduced the product environmental footprint of it’s the Baypren portfolio, with an average reduction in global warming potential (GWP) of 20% compared with 2025 levels, depending on grade.
“Integrating ISCC+ certified materials into our production is a key step in reducing the environmental footprint of our CR rubber products,” said Niels van der Aar, head of sustainability at Arlanxeo.
Arlanxeo said the use of ISCC+ certified feedstocks strengthens its position as a supplier of lower-carbon elastomer solutions for automotive, construction, industrial and adhesive applications.
The company also offers Baypren Eco grades combining ISCC+ certified chlorine and butadiene, enabling further reductions in environmental impact depending on grade.
