Company targets €150 million in annual savings from 2028 as part of competitiveness measures
Hanover, Germany — Continental’s industrial and materials arm, ContiTech has reached an agreement with employee representatives on workforce reduction measures affecting around 3,000 positions worldwide.
The job cuts, which include about 1,600 positions in Germany, are part of a broader restructuring programme aimed at improving “long-term competitiveness,” said ContiTech in a 7 May statement.
The agreement covers the implementation of measures announced in November last year (ERJ report) and sets out the framework for the “socially responsible” reduction of jobs.
As part of the move, ContiTech said, some activities will be relocated to countries with “more competitive cost structures.”
The company said the programme is intended to generate annual savings of €150 million from 2028 amid “continued weak market conditions.”
According to the company, the agreed package includes a voluntary separation programme as well as support for employees seeking new roles both within and outside the group.
Implementation will begin 8 May with the launch of the voluntary programme for eligible employees.
ContiTech said the reductions will focus mainly on administrative functions within its business areas and group sector operations, primarily in Hanover and other German sites.
Alongside the restructuring agreement, the company and employee representatives also adopted a future framework covering investment plans, labour relations and vocational training at German sites.
The framework includes commitments to “targeted investments to enhance the competitiveness of German sites” and maintaining vocational training volumes “above current demand,” with long-term employment perspectives.
ContiTech currently employs more than 20,000 people globally, including around 7,700 in Germany, and supplies industrial products and material solutions to multiple industries.
