In addition to logistics support, centre also provides materials formulation services to customers
Gaertringen, Germany – Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has opened a new European service centre in Gaertringen, Germany, combining logistics operations with materials development and value-added customer services.
The 16,000 sq.m. facility will serve as the group’s main European logistics hub and support both regional and global markets, the company said 28 April.
The site includes “highly automated functionality” across the supply chain, from goods receipt to shipping, with capacity for 60,000 containers, handled by 32 'innovative robots' transporting goods to 26 ports.
The operation also includes a pallet warehouse and a driverless transport system using ten automated forklifts.
Beyond logistics, the site will provide services including kitting, packaging, cutting and quality assurance, as well as application-specific activities such as clean-room handling, component assembly and coating processes.
Located near the industrial hub of Stuttgart, the “ultra-modern” facility also houses an in-house material innovation centre for polymer formulation for sealing solutions and a recycling development area focused on recoverable and reusable materials.
Engineers at the site will work on reducing environmental impact through material developments that can be recycled “without compromising application performance,” the company said.
“Our new European service centre is not only a significant milestone for us … but also significantly to our customers and the local region,” said Thomas Uhlig, managing director and president global supply chain management.
The facility will enable customers to see how products are developed “from selecting suitable materials and developing the design of a sealing component to final delivery,” said Konrad Saur, VP innovation and strategic business development.
