Local output aimed at cable applications including automation, robotics and EV charging
Shanghai, China — BASF has begun commercial production of flame-retardant (FR) Elastollan-branded thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) grades at its plant in Shanghai, with commercial supply starting in March.
The development expands the site’s capabilities following the 2023 localisation of BASF’s halogen-free flame-retardant (FHF) TPU series for customers in the Asia-Pacific region, said the German group 2 March.
With both FHF and FR TPU grades now produced locally, BASF said it can offer a broader portfolio of flame-retardant materials for the cable industry, including applications in industrial automation, robotics and EV charging infrastructure.
“Local production of FR grades... enables us to respond faster to specific technical requirements of the regional market,” said Rohit Roop Ghosh, VP business management TPU, performance materials Asia Pacific, BASF.
The expanded product range is also expected to support applications beyond cables, including speciality tubes, hoses and belts, BASF added.
