Tyres Europe call as UNECE task force progresses work to develop new regulation on wear properties
Brussels – Tyres Europe is attending the UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) working party on noise and tyres to support the development of workable abrasion limits for tires.
UNECE Task Force on Tyre Abrasion is developing a proposal for a new regulation to establish tire abrasion provisions for type approval.
Such regulation would build on methodology work already approved and now moving toward defining limits for passenger car tires, noted a Tyres Europe release issued 11 Feb.
“Reducing tire abrasion is an important environmental objective and it requires rules that are not only ambitious, but also enforceable in practice.,” said Adam McCarthy, secretary general of Tyres Europe.
“For a global product like tyres, globally aligned standards help deliver consistent compliance outcomes and avoid fragmentation across markets,” added McCarthy.
This is also essential to support effective implementation under the Euro 7 framework in the EU, the Tyre Europe leader further emphasised.
Tyres Europe said it will continue to contribute technical expertise to the UNECE work programme and other initiatives towards developing standards that “can be implemented and improved over time.”
