Group expanding HTBP output in Germany, set to build a new facility in Asia
Marl, Germany – Evonik Industries AG is strengthening its global production of hydroxyl-terminated polybutadienes (HTPB), with expansion plans in Germany and Asia.
Construction is now underway to “significantly increase” output at the group’s existing production site in Marl, Germany, set to go on-stream in the second quarter of 2027.
Furthermore, the Essen-based chemicals group has also initiated the engineering phase for a new production facility in the Asian region, added Evonik's 6 Feb announcement.
“The location for this new plant has been selected based on the strategic opportunity to leverage synergies with Evonik´s existing assets”, said Dr Juergen Herwig, head of Evonik’s polybutadienes business without offering further details.
The expansion programmes follow Evonik’s investments made over the past two years, including the expansion of HTPB production capacity at Marl in 2024.
The German group also established a production facility for Polyvest ST-E 60 polybutadienes in Shanghai, China, last year.
Marketed under ‘Polyvest HT’ brand, Evonik’s HTPB is used as a high-performance binder in polyurethanes (PU), adhesives, and sealants.
It is primarily applied in insulating glass sealants, automotive coatings, construction waterproofing membranes, gap fillers, and electronic potting compounds.
