Tyres Europe reports ‘softness’ across key market segments in 2025

Brussels – The European replacement market delivered a weak performance in 2025 with most segments showing year-on-year declines, data from sector association Tyres Europe shows.

Consumer tires – passenger car, SUV and light commercial – fell 5% year-on-year in the final quarter of last year, ending the full-year 2% down with total shipments of 224.1 million units.

The decline, said Tyres Europe, reflects “continued macro pressure: low consumer confidence, limited growth in miles travelled and, over the full year, rising import penetration.”

Summer tires posted the sharpest drop, down 7%, as the segment continued to lose share to all-season tires which saw a 5% year-on-year growth.

Winter tires declined 2% for the year, with a “steep fourth quarter drop” due to considerably milder weather in Europe compared to the prior-year period.

Truck & bus tire volumes also weakened with demand down 2% in the fourth quarter and by 4% across full-year 2025.

In its commentary, Tyres Europe noted “consistent with muted freight activity” continued for the truck & bus segment throughout 2025.

Sales, it noted, remained “sensitive” to industrial output, which Tyres Europe said was subdued. Volumes were further impacted by increased imports.

In the farm tire segment, fourth quarter was broadly flat but overall demand fell 4% year-on-year for the full-year: “reflecting continued caution in farm investment.”

Moto & scooter tires bucked the trend with a 4% year-on-year growth for the full year and stable demand for the final quarter of the year.

Commenting on the results, Tyres Europe’s secretary general, Adam McCarthy said the European replacement tire demand “remained weak through 2025, with softness across the key segments.”
