Project launched in Kratie province as local rubber output rises
Snoul, Cambodia – Vietnam–Cambodia Economic, Trade and Industry Co. Ltd (V-KETI) has begun constructing a large-scale rubber processing plant in Kratie province, eastern Cambodia.
V-KETI is a subsidiary of Loc Ninh Rubber Co., Ltd., which operates under the state-owned Vietnam Rubber Industry Group (VRG), noted a recent company release.
The company has been assigned to develop rubber plantations covering more than 4,300 hectares in Kratie province, said the statement issued 21 Jan.
As of now, said V-KETI, just under 4,000 hectares have entered the tapping phase, meeting the company’s stated development plan.
According to the company, rubber output from VRG-linked operations in Cambodia is expected to exceed 15,000 tonnes per year as plantations enter simultaneous harvesting.
The absence of on-site processing capacity has increased logistics and transport requirements, prompting the investment in a local rubber processing facility.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kong Kim Ny said the project would support job creation and contribute to the development of Cambodia’s rubber value chain.
No investment value, processing capacity or start-up timeline for the V-KETI plant was disclosed.
