Novi Sad, Serbia – Chinese automotive components manufacturer Shanghai Huizhong Automotive Manufacturing (SHAC) has opened its first European production facility in Serbia.
The group launched operations at a new plant in the Kac Industrial Zone near Novi Sad, the Development Agency of Serbia reported 5 Dec.
The investment, valued at more than $30 million (€25 million), includes a 19,000 sq.m. production hall that is in the final stages of equipment installation, with trial production expected to begin "shortly".
The facility forms part of a wider industrial complex, with further expansion planned in the coming years, the Serbian agency added.
According to SHAC's management, the facility in Serbia will serve as a key European manufacturing base supplying components to "global major" automotive OEMs, including BMW.
SHAC's portfolio of automotive parts includes chassis components, which could cover rubber and rubber-metal bonded parts used in suspension, axle and subframe systems to manage vibration and damping.
The opening ceremony was attended by SHAC executives, local officials as well as representatives of European automotive customers including BMW and Volkswagen.
