Safety product selected for two models: Impreza and Crosstrek
Kiyosu, Japan – Toyoda Gosei's 'rear side' airbags have been selected by Subaru Corp. on two passenger vehicle models (Impreza and Crosstrek), the components maker said 13 Jan.
The products are designed to deploy instantaneously between the door and passenger during collisions from the side: reducing impacts to the chest and abdomen of passengers.
Rear airbags are installed in the rear seat of the two models to enhance safety performance, with an eye on the road safety in North America where many large vehicles are operating.
Toyoda Gosei said it had improved the design so that the airbag can be installed in the limited space of the rear seat and 'has the thickness necessary for protection with greater compactness than front side airbags'.
