Full-year shipments forecast still above prior-year level, marking record figures
Washington – The US Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) has again revised down its previously issued projections for total US tire shipments in 2025.
The Washington association now expects the total figure to reach 337.4 million units, down from earlier estimates of 340.2 million in August, and 340.4 million in March.
Despite the lowered outlook, total shipment in 2025 will remain above the 2024 record figure of 337.3 million units and pre-Covid figure of 332.7 million units in 2019, said USTMA 2 Dec.
Compared with 2024, OE shipments for passenger car, light truck and truck tires are expected to fall 3.5%, 3.7%, and 18.1% respectively, with a total decrease of 2.8 million units.
While replacement passenger car tires are expected to remain flat, shipments for light truck and truck tires are projected to rise by 2.9%, and 7.9% respectively, with a total increase of 3.0 million units.
USTMA, however, noted that the recent US government shutdown delayed the release of August and September tire trade data
The November forecast, it cautioned, was produced without those inputs and may therefore contain higher-than-usual estimation errors for replacement shipments.
