Japanese group says is driving initiatives to advance standardisation and sharing of tire data
Hyogo, Japan – Toyo Tire Corp. has joined the Global Data Service Organisation for Tyres and Automotive Components (GDSO), an international non-profit association promoting standardisation and access to data related to tires and automotive components.
As part of GDSO, Toyo Tire said it will advance its initiatives to promote industry standards for data related to tires to establish individual tire identification and traceability.
Toyo said it has been involved in the development of a data platform that GDSO promotes, using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.
By building a database of tires manufactured and distributed by the group, Toyo said it will help enhance efficiency and reliability of information management across the industry.
RFID uses wireless communication to enable non-contact individual identification. When applied to quality assurance and inventory control, it is expected to enhance work efficiency and safety.
Established in 2022, GDSO is a collaborative platform that aims to standardise data-related aspects around tires and the automotive sector.
GDSO also promotes the easier sharing of data in the tire and automotive industries, offering manufacturers and other players in the value chain access to sector-specific data systems.
