Portuguese waste tire pyrolysis company set for commercial operation of plant in first quarter of 2026
Fatima, Portugal – Portuguese waste tire pyrolysis BB&G has named Manuel de Sousa Martins as its new CEO, succeeding Germano Carreira.
Martins has been mandated to “consolidate and accelerate” the company’s growth strategy, both in Portugal and internationally, said BB&G 22 Oct.
Described as “a seasoned executive,” Martins brings in nearly 20 years of “top-tier leadership” in various sectors, including retail, telecommunications, renewable energy, petrochemicals and environmental services.
He holds a degree and an MBA from Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and has completed senior executive programmes at INSEAD, London Business School, and MIT.
BB&G operates an industrial demonstration plant for end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis in Ourem, Portugal, with commercial production scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2026.
In parallel, the company is advancing the development of a larger-capacity facility in Santarém, also in Portugal.
Last year, BB&G entered a strategic partnership with Bridgestone and Versalis for a ‘closed loop’ tire initiative to use tire pyrolysis oil in the production of sustainable rubber used in tires. (ERJ report)
