Swedish, Norwegian tire recyclers in collection link-up

Oslo - Norway tire recycler Norsk Dekkretur and Sweden's Svensk Dackatervinning  are consolidating the handling of end-of-life tires (ELTs) across both countries.

The collaboration sees Norsk Dekkretur become a co-owner of ‘Bon Orbit’, an ELT collection specialist which until now has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Svensk Dackatervinning.

As a jointly owned company, Bon Orbit will ensure the flow of raw materials, develop the market and strengthen the circular economy for tire recycling in Sweden and Norway, Norsk Dekkretur said 21 Oct.

The collaboration aims to ensure cost-efficiency and economies-of-scale through the joint handling of 90 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of Swedish tire waste and Norway's 60ktpa tire arisings.

As the operator of the joint enterprise, Bon Orbit is building what is described as “Europe’s largest indoor production facility for recycled tire materials.”

The facility will be located in western Sweden and is expected to be commissioned in autumn 2026.

The link-up will enable stronger circular tire management in Norway and benefit both the environment and industry, said Per Kristian Nauste, general manager of Norsk Dekkretur.

"Through the collaboration with Norway, we are now taking the next step to both secure larger volumes and develop more innovative areas of use for recycled material," added Fredrik Ardefors, CEO of Svensk Dackatervinning.

Producer responsibility for tires is still managed by Norsk Dekkretur in Norway and Svensk Dackatervinning in Sweden, respectively.
