New winter tire tops TUV and Dekra tests for snow and wet performance
Milan, Italy – Pirelli has introduced the Cinturato Winter 3, a new high-performance winter tire for sedans and crossovers, developed to improve safety and control in snow and wet conditions.
The product ranked first for braking, traction and handling on snow in independent tests by Dekra and TUV, earning the "TUV premium quality mark", said Pirelli 7 Oct.
It also 'performed best' for aquaplaning resistance and wet handling, with an A–B wet grip classification across all sizes on the EU tire label.
Pirelli said the tire also offers low rolling noise and longer mileage than its predecessor.
The tire’s performance is linked to a new tread pattern featuring a 'central zig-zag channel' for water evacuation and “snow keeper teeth” on the blocks that trap snow for better snow-on-snow grip.
Optimised sipes aim to balance traction on snow with stability on wet surfaces.
The tire's compound uses 'dual-core polymer technology' derived from the P Zero Winter 2, combining flexibility at low temperatures for snow adhesion with stability on wet and dry roads.
Pirelli said the formulation improves wear resistance and broadens the tire’s performance range.
The Cinturato Winter 3 was developed using virtual simulation tools, including Pirelli’s AI-based virtual compounder, which helps identify optimal material combinations.
The company said this method reduced the use of physical prototypes and shortened development time.
Available on the replacement market, the range covers 35 sizes from 16 to 20 inches.
The tire joins Pirelli’s winter range alongside the P Zero Winter 2 for high-performance cars and the Scorpion Winter 2 for SUVs.
