Dusseldorf, Germany – Tire recycling is taking centre-stage at Rubber Street, a special feature of the ongoing K2025 rubber & plastics show, 8-15 Oct in Dusseldorf.
Flooring for the Rubber Street displays is made of “high-quality and robust rubber mats” derived from recycled old tires, reported the German rubber industry association WDK.
The association and the German-based Alliance for the Future of Tyres (AZuR) have campaigned for a strengthening of the circular economy for scrap tires across Europe.
The mats, said WDK technical manager Stephan Rau, highlight the potential of sustainable tire recycling to the many thousands of visitors to K2025.
The display, added Rau, also highlights the need for “reliable material flows to recyclers and processors as well as non-discriminatory regulation of recyclate products."
Such measures, he said, must be put in place to ensure that end-of-life tires are effectively recycled, both in Germany and throughout Europe.
Describing this as a "best practice example" for the circular economy, Rau said the rubber flooring can be used several times at the K trade fair and then recycled again.
“This would not be possible with disposable trade fair flooring,” he added.
