Reinforcing carbons, produced under Evolve platform, derived from waste tire pyrolysis oil
Boston, Massachusetts – Cabot Corp. has started the production of circular reinforcing carbons at its manufacturing plant in Ville Platte, Louisiana, to extend its sustainable product portfolio in North America.
The carbon black products, intended for tire reinforcement, are produced using end-of-life tire pyrolysis oil (TPO) and are certified by ISSC+ through a mass balance approach, Cabot said 7 Oct.
The Louisiana plant is the third Cabot factory to produce the circular carbon black products in addition to facilities in Maua, Brazil and Valasske Mezirici (Valmez), Czech Republic.
Furthermore, Cabot said it had expanded its global network of ISCC+ certified sites to 14 facilities, including 12 units supplying reinforcement carbons for the rubber & tire industry.
The US-based supplier is supplying the TPO-based grades under its ‘Evolve’ technology platform, which was launched in 2023 to enhance waste recovery, use of renewable resources and reduce emissions.
The “drop-in” products are developed in response to sustainability demands of tire makers, a majority of which are aiming to have 40% sustainable content in tire production by 2030 and 100% by 2050.
