Product launched with high share of renewable and recycled materials
Hanover, Germany – Continental has announced the launch of a city bus tire with up to 60% of the materials used sourced from renewable, recycled and ISCC+* mass-balance-certified.
The Conti Urban HA 5 NXT is the manufacturer’s most advanced city bus tire to date: reducing rolling resistance by 25% and extending range by up to 15% compared to previous models.
Meanwhile, a newly developed tread compound is said to deliver up to 15% higher mileage than predecessors, while still maintaining EU class B rating for wet grip.
The tire production process is also claimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 11% compared to the previous Conti Urban HA 3 model.
Among other things, natural rubber, renewable fillers, recycled synthetic rubber, and rubber from mechanically processed scrap tires are used in the production of the tire.
The optimised tread design reduces noise and meets EU label class A for external rolling noise.
In addition, the Conti Urban HA 5 NXT is equipped with pre-installed sensors that enable “quick onboarding” of a fleet into Continental’s digital tire management system ContiConnect.
The system provides fleet managers with insights into tire pressure, temperature and mileage, supports predictive maintenance and lowers operating costs.
* The ISCC+ is a voluntary certification standard that validates the sustainability characteristics of alternative raw materials along the entire supply chain, from origin to end user.
